They Will Say That The Anti-War Movement Was Born This Very Week.
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 10:53 PM by DistressedAmerican
I do not mean by that statement to imply that there has not been ongoing mass action against this war from the start. Amazing work has been going on from before the war began.

I simply mean that when they write the history of this movement, they will say that THIS was the week that thousands and eventually millions of ordinary Americans who oppose this war found their voices.

Not just those that have openly spoken up before. But, also those Americans of all walks of life that have concluded that this war was based on lies and/or not worth the cost in human lives or national treasure. I tell you without reservation ladies and gentlemen that an avalanche has begun.

It began with one woman. One brave woman who chose to speak up. Her voice found resonance and has gone out to people all over this country. In one short week, thousands of Americans were so drawn to that message that they chose to put their lives on hold and gravitate to the source of that avalanche and have themselves begun to speak out. Others who could not literally travel to the epicenter of this unstoppable movement have spoken out where they live, in their own communities. Many millions more have heard those collective voices and found their sentiments both true and undeniable.

Loud and clearly they are speaking and their voices are also finding resonance. Many more, themselves primarily the families of both the victims of this war and those fighting it, will no longer sit silently waiting for something to change the situation. They themselves have decided to change it and they will not look back until this ill conceived occupation is brought to an end.

This, like the civil rights movement and the fight to end the Vietnam War The avalanche that we see building was necessary because our own government no longer acts in the best interests of this country or its citizens. And like those movements, they WILL achieve our NOBLE GOALS!

Much like we have seen in the past, we will have to achieve these goals primarily through non-violent means. Because we ourselves seek nothing more than peace. We will not be baited nor will be harassed into actions that make us like those whose actions we seek to oppose. Yet. by peacefully speaking out in a loud and unified voice we will end this war and bring the troops home.

END THE WAR IN IRAQ NOW!

6. 10 million people around the world protested the war BEFORE Bush
launched it in Feb 2002. That was the largest anti-war demonstration on record.

What Cindy did was re-ignite the smoldering embers of the anti-Iraq war movement that were pushed under but never died out. This movement must stay alive to prevent a war against Iran and further escalation by the Bush junta.

11. Oh yes
I think she woke us up again. I think after the last election a lot of people were down and hopeless. But here came Ms. Sheehan ready to battle the leader of the freeworld. She isn't afraid of him.

25. Yes, indeed
She is not afraid of him.

I am struck by the meekness of Ms. Sheehan. Her voice and demeanor are the perfect fit for speaking truth and being representative of the millions of others seeking the simple truth.

While it is true that she has stirred into us a great deal of hope, it is also true that she is energized by all of our spiritual support.

We are all Sheehan's Soldiers.

30. Not only...
Not only was it the "largest anti-war demonstration on record" it's also the only time a war was protested before the war began.

8. It has gotten thru the sludge of denial like nothing else could
A woman I work who I consider my weathervane of the open-minded, concerned-but-not-extreme, non-committed Independent, "both sides lie," "fed-up-with-the-whole-lot-of-them" voter.

I listen to AAR at work and we talk about-- but she never quite "gets" --the DSM, multiple warnings prior to 9-11 ("oh, I think we already knew that"), Galloway's testimony, the missing billions, the underequipped troops, etc., etc.

This week she was saying,

"WHY DOESN'T HE JUST TALK TO HER?"

We agreed that the Bush team doesn't have control of the situation and doesn't know how to handle it.

She was disgusted by his lameness and thought he could have said a few words and dealt with it and it would not be such a problem for him.

Multply her by-- oh, I dunno-- conservatively X10,000?

:patriot:

Support the troops, don't squander their lives, Mr. Bush.

He can not meet with her now. Simply because he refused right off. Stuck and paralyzed.

13. I agree
I think he's stuck too. If he does meet with her he'll give the rightwing talking points and she'll tell everybody whatever they talk about I'm sure. If he doesn't he'll seem uncaring etc. And also if he does meet the freepers and his fundie base who he still panders to for some reason will not like him. We all know Bush loves his poll numbers.

You can feel it. Someday when I'm a mother and have children who are learning US history I can show them all my memories of this time. All the photo's and video's I'm saving. It'll definietly be a time in history. I'll remember Ms. Sheehan as America's mother.

19. Nothing is going to stop this march toward peace.
Cindy signs some of her messages:

"Peace soon."

And I believe it.

Those of us that want this war to end are resolved to make that happen.

27. Yep, this house of cards is DEFINITELY starting to fall!
Maybe if they'd built it on something more than just stolen diamonds and neanderthal clubs... maybe if there'd been a few actual HEARTS in the deck...
Now all they've got left to play is the spades... and they're digging themselves deeper and deeper with each passing day.
But it was always just a house of cards... and even with an entirely bought and paid for press, and legions of pundits babbling and clerics doing their dervish dances and speaking in tongues, and black helicopter goon squads beating down doors and dragging folks off in the dead of night, even surrounded by by 'nucular' weapons and all the gold in California and all the tea in China, IT HAS TO FALL!
Cuz it's just a fucking house of cards... and, now obvious to even the most gullible among us, not a SINGLE real heart in the deck.
The fascists have had their turn on the great catwalk of American culture, and they fell on their asses, again and again. It's been like the Blind, Deaf and Dumb All-Skate Ice Capades out there!
And now they've fallen and they can't get up! Pitiable!
The Emperor and his henchmen have no clothes! They have NO SKIN!
Hell, they don't even have a SPINE! No endo- or exoskeleton to speak of! NO STRUCTURE A'TALL!! A buncha freakin' worms, living in a house of cards that is now tumbling around 'em. burying their slimy asses as they so desperately need to be buried, for they CANNOT survive exposure to the light!
Back to the depths with you, vile carrion-eaters! Back to the dark and the ooze and the cold embrace of your native soils! Good riddance, motherfuckers!
d

ps: Goddess bless and keep you, Cindy Sheehan; your courage and stalwart determination has ALREADY redeemed us ALL!
