Has anyone posted pics of the crosses on the road to the ranch?
A few people on Randi's show mentioned them, as well as others who are posting from Crawford and I'd like to see them. It sounds like an awesome sight.

7. Are they all crosses?
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 09:08 PM by TahitiNut
No Stars of David? No Islamic Crescents? No Eastern Orthodox Crosses? No Wheels of Righteousness? I find it hard to believe that all 1850+ were (Latin) Christians.

8. It's just crosses.
I agree ... it would have been nice if each soldier's faith was represented, but I have to give them a pass on this one because it is such an overwhelming sight and the feeling behind it is genuine. :-)

10. Arlington has all the variants (and more) that I listed.

 The cenotaphs are rectangular (with arched tops) and the inscriptions include the religious emblem.

See ...

Headstones and markers are inscribed with the name of the deceased, the years of birth and death, and branch of service. Optional items that also may be inscribed at VA expense are: military grade, rank or rate; war service (such as "World War II"); months and days of birth and death; an emblem reflecting one's beliefs; valor awards received; and the Purple Heart. Additional items may be inscribed at private expense.

12. I see, thanks.
I don't know why I had an image in my mind that Arlington was a sea of white crosses.

13. You're probably thinking of the D-Day cemeteries in France.

Even there, however, the shape of the cenotaph reflected religion of the person interred, I believe. (They may have been segregated.)

11. I see the answer here ...
We had a few comments and discussions about no Jewish, Muslim or other grave markers. It was too much for us to deal with and stayed with crosses only. There is no mention in the government casualty lists about religion. We have a sign that if we included Iraqi war dead, that there wouldn't be enough room on the beach.

Pity. We can never seem to know enough about those whose lives were sacrificed in our name.
