I thought I would play off something Malloy talked about the other night. What do you think?
-------- Consider this:
Imagine Chinese forces invading to liberate the United States from a mad, tyrannical dictator. They have been in the country for two years and, consequently, your personal situation has worsened over the months -- less electricity, less water, fuel shortages, and the gunfire and explosions in your Washington D.C. neighborhood have become an everyday occurence. You thought the Chinese were here to free you from all of this, but it seems like they have made it worse.
You hear reports and see pictures of Chinese troops torturing Americans at Leavenworth. You know the story: sadistic sexual acts, electric wires attached to genitals, public humiliation, beatings, dog attacks, etc. You know of a place off the coast of Hong Kong where other Americans have been taken, never to be seen or heard from again. The situation is so bad that many of the Americans there have tried to commit mass suicide.
You have lost innocent friends or relatives at the hands, or the bombs, of the Chinese. Your brother, who has always held extreme political views, has now brought up arms against the Chinese in one of the "American Freedom Fighters" groups, the resistance movement that started in the Bible Belt. While you don't completely agree with him, you sympathize with his grievances and decide to protect him from the Chinese.
Now imagine the Chinese want to hold a nationwide election. While most Americans don't speak about it, they know that the interim American leader, Ian Galloway, is the candidate that the Chinese would be most pleased with. You question the validity of an election ran by the Chinese and have no doubt that Galloway will win the upcoming election. You worry that, being a former member of the tyrannical Whig Party, Galloway might eventually morph into a dictator himself. But there is nothing you can do about it.
Would you vote?
Or, would you just stay at home, protesting the vote and protecting you and your family from the inevitable battles between Freedom Fighters and Chinese troops?
What would you do?
