Goss is a gift to Democrats.
The one thing Republicans don't want to discuss is the way they have politicized the CIA. Now they have nominated in a very political manner a very political nominee. The hearings should give the Democrats a field day in going over the CIA during the last three years. And there in nothing the Republicans can now do about it. Bush has opened the door. But will the Dems take the opportunity?

1. Who was Goss having breakfast with on the morning of 9/11?
Edited on Tue Aug-10-04 07:35 PM by anarchy1999
Anyone here remember? I don't have the link but I know it is damming. Wasn't it that Pakistan ISI person or diplomat that was shortly thereafter removed?

Oh yes, wasn't it the guy rumored to have sent $100,000 to Atta. We all know who "Atta is", right?

3. You mean the guy who wired $$$ to Atta?
Senator Bob Graham of Florida was at that meeting also, btw. Anyway, yes, it was an ISI guy, who was quickly fired shortly thereafter. (Sorry, can't think of the name right now either, but I'm sure I know who you mean)

Conveniently, our US media decided to clam up about this particular story shortly after its initial appearence.

5. Here you go...

From the 9/11 timeline at cooperativeresearch.org:

August 28-30, 2001 Complete 911 Timeline

Senator Bob Graham (D), Representative Porter Goss (R) and Senator John Kyl (R) travel to Pakistan and meet with President Musharraf. They reportedly discuss various security issues, including the possible extradition of bin Laden. They also meet with Abdul Salam Zaeef, the Taliban ambassador to Pakistan. Zaeef apparently tells them that the Taliban want to solve the issue of bin Laden through negotiations with the US. Pakistan says it wants to stay out of the bin Laden issue. All three are meeting with ISI Director Lt. Gen. Mahmood Ahmed in Washington at the time of the 9/11 attacks (see September 11, 2001 (H)). Mahmood gave $100,000 to hijacker Mohamed Atta (see October 7, 2001).

7. Thanks! That's precisely the reference.
That is just one of many odd elements of the 9/11 record. I have always found it very disturbing.

On PBS NewsHour tonight, Ray McGovern of "Retired Intelligence Professionals for Sanity" made an excellent and (imho) effective argument against the appointment of Goss -- largely based on solid proof of his obvious partisanship.

Unfortunately, I think this ISI meeting is too obscure a story to have much of an effect. Better to take McGovern's tack of exposing the danger of further politicizing US intellence work, imho.

July 19 2004-Venice,FL.
by Daniel Hopsicker

Mohamed Atta’s ability to roam at will across America—despite having his name on the CIA’s terrorist watch list—was not due to official incompetence or bureaucratic snafu, but to Atta’s status as a good earner, in a lucrative drug trafficking operation which linked Osama bin Laden’sthugs and drug lieutenants to their equally-thuggish American counterparts.

10. And speaking of Venice, FL
There's another ongoing thread which says Venice is in Porter Goss's district.

Sometimes the coincidences just get to be too much. :eyes:
