More job cuts may be coming to East Aurora's Fisher-Price.
Its parent company, Mattel, has confirmed that, "after a lengthy due diligence process," it is outsourcing the company's information technology work to Indian company Wipro. But there is no official word yet on whether East Aurora employees will be affected or if so, how many of them.
"While there will be some impact on IT positions throughout the company, at this time we are still working with Wipro to identify which functions will be impacted, so I cannot speculate how the transition will affect jobs at each Mattel location," said Jules Andres, director of corporate communications for Mattel.
The only switch that is certain, according to Andres, is the company's transfer of its Phoenix technology center from Phoenix to Wipro."As always, we are committed to ensuring that any impacted staff will be treated fairly, in a sensitive manner and with recognition of their contributions to the organization," said Andres.
The job cuts were foreshadowed in Mattel's first-quarter earnings call earlier this month, when it commented to investors and media that it was "working on outsourcing
IT infra structure" as part of its strategy to cut costs. Mattel reported a surprise 12 percent increase in revenue for the quarter ending March 31.
