State recount could cost Hillary victory
Hillary Clinton's surprise win in New Hampshire hung in the balance last night as a recount was announced. The news strikes a further blow to the former US First Lady's campaign to be the Democratic presidential candidate. After consistently trailing behind Barak Obama, her campaign was buoyed by her win on Tuesday.
But polls had predicted she would lose, raising questins when she gained 39 % of the vote to Mr Obama's 36%. The last time the state did a recount of the presidential primary was in 1980. Experts started questioning the the count almost as soon as votes rolled in.
'Something stinks in New Hampshire", said a commentator on the popular site Americablog.com. It's unprecedented for so many polls to have been so wrong, said Gary Langer, polling Director at ABC News. 'We need to know why.'
There have been reports that computer hackers may have affected the result. A TV documentary claimed 81% of the votes were counted on machines that could be easily hacked into."
