MADISON — A coalition of gay rights advocates and domestic assault opponents urged Waupaca County Judge Philip Kirk to apologize for his comments at a sentencing last Monday that seemed to associate homosexuality with pedophilia.
"The facts show that gay men are no more likely to molest children than straight men," the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Committee of the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault wrote in a statement. "Pedophilia is a violent crime committed against children because a perpetrator seeks power and control over their victims."
Kirk previously told The Post-Crescent he didn't imply any connection between pedophilia and homosexuality when he sentenced Delton D. Gorges on six sexual assault convictions and said, "I think you were born gayer than a sweet-smelling jockstrap."
"I think that if anyone believes that in the last 10 years or 15 years all of a sudden you developed an interest in homosexuality and young boys, then I must have looked ravishing in my prom dress this year," Kirk continued.........................
