GOP demanding apology from Kerry-Democrat calls foes 'crooked' and 'lying'
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 08:04 AM by NNN0LHI
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/03/11/main/

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Bush campaign is demanding an apology from Sen. John Kerry after the presumptive Democratic nominee called his Republican opponents the "most crooked ... lying group of people I've ever seen."

A Kerry spokesman later said the senator wasn't referring to the president but to those behind what he characterized as a GOP attack "machine." snip

But the chairman of the Bush re-election campaign, former Montana Gov. Mark Racicot, isn't buying it. He says Kerry should apologize.

Kerry campaign official David Wade later told reporters that Kerry knew his microphone was on. Wade said Kerry was not calling Bush crooked but was instead referring to Republicans who launched "crooked, deceitful, personal attacks over the last four years."

101. Man, you said it. Here's what I sent to Ann Lewis at the DNC:
I read this comment on the internet today:

"Remember, Bush called Adam Clymer a "major league asshole" while smiling and waving to a crowd....and only apologized for the mic being on, not for his words."

I remember another comment - from Harry Truman, in response to someone telling him to "give 'em hell, Harry." He said "I don't give 'em hell. I tell 'em the truth. And they think it's hell."

Or as Jack Nicholson said in "A Few Good Men," "TRUTH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!"

Kerry MUST NOT APOLOGIZE. He's telling the truth. AND HE NEEDS TO POINT OUT THAT:

1) We've been lied to about WMDs - "WHOPPERS OF MASS DISTRACTION."
2) We've been lied to about all those magic jobs that are mysteriously going to pop up for people in 2004.
3) We've been lied to that we're safer now. MAKING THE WHOLE WORLD HATE US DOES NOT MAKE US SAFER.
4) We've been lied to about his role in 9/11 - what's he trying to hide from investigators, OR the 9/11 families?
5) We've been lied to about his obligation as so-called Commander-in-Chief: "There's only one person who hugs the mothers and the widows, the wives and the kids upon the death of their loved one. Others hug but having committed the troops, I've got an additional responsibility to hug and that's me and I know what it's like." —George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., Dec. 11, 2002. Bush hasn't been to ONE funeral. And there have been roughly 550 of them...
6) We've been lied to about his "tour of duty" in the Texas Air National Guard - and what WERE those papers that were tweezered out of his files so there wouldn't be anything damaging in them?
7) We've been lied to about how the tax cuts were gonna help EVERYBODY. Yeah, sure. Well, everybody in the elite upper 1 percent of our country.
8) We've been lied to about "compassionate conservatism." Wanting to put state-sanctioned discrimination into our constitution (read: MARRIAGE DISCRIMINATION AMENDMENT - this is what it MUST repeatedly be called)?
9) We've been lied to about his being "a uniter, not a divider," as the country has NEVER been more divided.
10) We've been lied to about his past drug/alcohol episodes. Why does he refuse to discuss them? Especially since Tom DeLay wants to bring up Kerry's alleged "European boarding school" upbringing - I guess that's how far back in time we're now invited to go, 'eh? Bring 'em on!
11) We've been lied to about his "stellar" performance as a CEO. If I were a Harvard higher-up, I'd be VERY upset that the reputation of the Harvard MBA has been trashed by this fraud. THIS is what a Harvard MBA has done for our country?!?!?
12) We're BEING lied to about Kerry's record on cutting funding for the CIA in 1995. The GOP is NOT telling the whole truth about that resolution co-sponsored by REPUBLICAN Arlen Specter, with bipartisan support, that merely called for the intelligence community to start dipping into these secret savings accounts that they'd built up to maybe 900 million dollars for a rainy day.
13) We've been lied to about No Child Left Behind - why did bush then cut the funding for it?
14) We've been lied to about fighting AIDS in Africa - why did bush then cut the funding for it?
15) We've been lied to about all the wonders accomplished by the Department of Homeland Security - why did bush then cut the funding for it (the very idea of such a department being a DEMOCRATIC idea, originally)?
16) We've been lied to about the Valerie Plame affair. If he REALLY wanted to get to the bottom of it, don't you think we would have had perp-walks WAY before now?
17) We've been lied to about "Mission Accomplished."
18) We've been lied to about that lovely Turkey Trot to Baghdad - the platter of turkey and trimmings he held up - EXCLUSIVELY for a photo op - was never meant for human consumption, and certainly not for the troops on hand, who, by the way, were carefully filtered so that only supporters got access to that dining experience. Countless others were locked out and refused entry!
19) We've been lied to about his stewardship on the day of 9/11. He wasted far too much time sitting in that school room reading the goat book after he'd been advised what had happened, NO jets were scrambled after having plenty of warning that enemies were in the air, he proceeded to fly all over the Sunbelt for most of the day, looking for his own "spider hole" to hide in when we REALLY NEEDED strong, steady leadership. Note an earlier email regarding "WHERE is the president?" AND he arranged to have his Bin Laden family buddies and other Saudi operatives flown out of the country in secret, without even being questioned by the FBI, the day after 9/11 - WHILE OUR AIRSPACE WAS CLOSED, NATIONWIDE, and remained closed for most of the rest of the week.
20) SHEESH! We've even been lied to about his being some sort of cowboy. He's afraid of horses, and his "ranch" is a PIG FARM!

I've now gone through 20 "Points of Lies." I could keep on going but there's not enough time in what's left of this day to produce (or to read) a full and comprehensive list. There are JUST TOO MANY LIES.

Kerry's declaration that his opponents are CROOKED and are LIARS is spot-on. He has nothing to apologize for. Unless the climate in our society has changed to the extent that one must now feel compelled to apologize for telling the truth.

I just realized I may have to switch from referring to "republi-CONS" - back to the conventional "republicans."

Because you can't spell "RepubLIcAnS" without "LIARS."

And you can't spell "Whopper" without Dubya.

Remember AWOL got a pass on his "Major League Asshole" comment. His apology was a slap in the face. He was sorry that it was broadcast, not that he said it.

I gain new resepect for Kerry after hearing him say that.

77. Here's a RW op-ed saying Shrub should refuse debates until JFK apologizes.
You can disagree with Bush on any number of issues, including the decision to go to war in Iraq. But no one candidate of the opposition party has to my knowledge ever uttered such a hate-infused polemic against the sitting president. This outburst is one with the MoveOn.org crowd's Bush-as-Hitler ads. It is bizarre. It is disturbing. It is disqualifying. Imagine a rage filled Kerry in the White House. And you thought Nixon had his demons.

At a minimum I hope the president responds by ruling out any debates with this jerk --any debates, period-- until a full apology is issued by Kerry to a full bank of cameras, a detailed and complete apology that includes everyone about whom the public might now think a liar or corrupt because of this recklessness. Seriously, the Democrats need to rethink their choice. Kerry's way off the cliff, and we have just begun to glimpse the inner Kerry: A mean-spirited, arrogant, angst-riden elitist with nothing but contempt for President Bush and the Americans who support him. And he has now given every nut in America more fuel for their inner demons.

more excuse making here...http://www.hughhewitt.com/

Said Kerry,"We're all sorry you guys are such assholes. We feel real bad that your selfish, criminal, money-grubbing approach has put the nation and the world in grave peril."

Sure. Have Bush refuse debates until Kerry "apologizes" - which will show the world how scared Bush is of any debates. Bad idea from the RW.

Perhaps Governor Racicot would care to explain how he was enrolled in a college ROTC program, especially when the college did not have

So far the lying part is true, or maybe the Republicans are just "wrong".

13. If....
...this is a sample of things to come from Kerry, well then I'll have to raise my respect level for him a bunch.

Could it be, could it maybe perhaps just be - that Kerry "gets it" and is not going to let the lying, crooked Republicans "frame the debate".

The fact is that truth is a complete defense against libel or slander. It would be so easy to prove these rancid fools are in fact crooked liars they won't dare step near a courtroom. And the more they whine on the media the more people realize that "lying crooks" is not an unfair characterization.

They spent 8 years making lies up about Clinton. Get a taste of your own dog food chumps, we don't even have to make it up about you.

16. Kerry should issue an apology.
The apology should say that Kerry is sorry if anyone construed his statement as applying to every single republican in the country and that he was referring to specific incidents such as:
(Insert a list of a dozen or so specific lies and criminal incidents here. This list should include specific lies by Bush, Cheney, Racicot, Gillespie, and others. It also should include specific criminal acts such as revealing Plame's status and the bribery of Congressman Smith.)

Although the list of possible lies and crimes is huge, Keryy should identify only a dozen or two to keep it simple.

Now we can defend the statement by publishing documented examples of lying, crooked politics etc. In the media as long as the issue is hot. I hope with all the documentation a rapid response team is not even necessary.

43. Do What!! GOP demanding an apology?? - Give me a break!
Edited on Thu Mar-11-04 09:54 AM by 0007
Kerry drew attention both because of his military record -- he had served as an officer in the Navy and had been awarded a Silver Star, Bronze Star and three Purple hearts -- and with his background, Kerry was a Yale University graduate, with higher than a "C" average.

Now the repukes want to see Kerry's war record, cuz they believe he's lying about this Silver Star, Bronze Star and three Purple hearts. I heard it this morning on Washington Journal from callers calling in the the charge.

The GOP demands Kerry to apologize for calling junior a lying stinking thieving poll cat? Kerry should offer his records at a debate with junior if junior will bring his AWOL record, his community service record, his cocaine arrest record and his abortion record of Robin Lowman. (Oh yeah, his school record also)

Kerry should tell junior You’re a real Son of a Bitch. Fuck you. Fuck
your dad, and Fuck your mom. Fuck your Nazi grandpa and your effeminate giddy father the CIA monster. Fuck your brother Jeb, and Fuck your ugly wife. Fuck your whole family you have Fucked America and now America is saying Fuck you, Kiss my bitter patriotic Ass you Son of a Bitch.

John Kerry you :yourock:

44. All Kerry Needs to Say is that
his "constituants" are behind his statement 100% so therefore, he told the truth and he will not apologize. After hearing this last night - now I will not only cast my vote for Kerry as being one against Bush - but will cast my vote wholeheartedly in favor of Kerry. I was THRILLED to hear him say that - ahhh, the truth does hurt the liars - but to the rest of us - it felt great.

46. keep that tape!
The news outlets had better hold onto this little piece of tape, featuring Kerry proclaiming the truth. Because someday, when this administration is truly examined (hopefully sooner rather than later), we're going to learn about so many abominable instances of "crookedness" and "lying" that we never knew about. We're going to find out that this administration was truly the worst of all time. Flubya will be on the bottom of every historian's "best presidents" list.

And we'll know that Kerry told the truth.

The Goopers know they're in trouble; they can't tout their record, so they point fingers at Kerry and the MoveOn ad, crying foul. Lame-ass bastards!

Imus' butt kissing newsman read the story. Imus replied (paraphrasing): So, what about that statement isn't correct?! The little asskisser newsman is still cheering for Bush and got his knickers in a bunch saying "not presidential", etc. but Imus hit him with the Bush "asshole" remark during the 2000 campaign. A lot of white males listen to Imus just like listen to Stern. This has got to worry the hell out of the repukes. Please, Sen. Kerry, stay out of the planes and get more body guards.

Sen Kerry: Thank you all for coming today. I called this press conference to clarify my remarks from the other day. The RNC and other GOP party officials are demanding an apology from me for my "crooked, liars" comment regarding the republican dirty trick smear machine. I resisted at first, but I now realize that to show a spirit of bipartisanship, I will offer Ed Gillespie, the RNC Chairman the first chance to come up here and suck the apology out of my dick.

"John Kerry has run a relentlessly negative campaign from the very beginning, and this comment is completely consistent with that," Schmidt said. "He has offered no plan or positive agenda for the country and has based his entire campaign on a series of false and inaccurate attacks." "We have seen that again today when he attacked tax relief for American workers. His campaign-trail promises mean he is going to raise taxes by at least $900 billion."

87. What a gift for Kerry and the Dems
Kept hearing the replay of Kerry's remarks about the crooked liar's followed by the righteous indignation of the Neocons and the media whores that this proves that Kerry is not Presidential material because of his this personal attack against the President????

I know I'm getting old and a little forgetful, but in no way shape or manner did I hear Kerry mention: The President, George W. Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, Powell, Rice, etc., etc., etc., either by name or position. He could have been angry with the Unions, his plumber, his bankers, any group or organization. Yet in true form of the Neocons they will attempt to use this against Kerry, "un-Presidential". They used this similar tactic on Dean "angry little man".

What if Kerry's media advisors used this against Bush by replaying Kerry's remarks about crooked liars and then Bush's thugs request for an apology.....with the final bit of Kerry asking (he did not identify the crooks and liars) just who did Georgie think should personally receive this apology. If this is continually replayed over and over again in it's true content it makes the Neocons look like idiots and those undecided voters will pay more attention to the attacks of the Neocons. hey are more apt to .

85. Specifically the "lying"
is likely in Kerry's mind the outright distortion of Senate votes to which he can add an uncritical media that purposely takes GOP ploys on face value and never investigates the truth or the lie if it involves Republicans. So the candidate who did less than open mike Bush-Cheney calling a reporter an asshole(I don't remember an apology)cannot legitimately characterize a lying attack with an innocent adjective "most"?

Let's debate "most". The historical comparison using real documentation would be stimulating. "Lying" as a forbidden word is pantywaist censorship at its most disingenuous. As long as the sporting news political reporting is going to bend over and let lying continue why be dismayed at a little critique?

The Daily Howler already has identified a parrot meme(David Brooks copying from an unidentified source) about Kerry's clothes that this current piffle has obscured. Can we get back to Kerry's clothes and not deviate from the script? This red meat diversion only solidifies Dem votes and gets the others wondering or pouting.

Lies? Do they want a list? Easier to find than WMD's, believe me.

Kerry will apologize - I suspect he knows a lot more than he lets on. This article is lengthy but extremely interesting, documenting Bush's shady involvement with Harken Energy - about halfway through it mentions investigations by Senator Kerry into BCCI, which was involved in financing Harken. It also mentions that George Soros owned Harken stock before Bush got involved - maybe thats why he's so interested in funding his defeat - perhaps he knows firsthand about the incompetence and shady dealings. http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0210/S00178.htm
