Senator Warns White House Will 'Create Crisis' and 'Panic' to Push Stimulus
Source: Business & Media Institute

Is the new Obama administration taking cues from the Bush administration to get Congress to act? It certainly seemed that way to, South Carolina’s junior Republican senator, Jim DeMint.

DeMint, speaking Jan. 27 at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., explained the Obama administration will “create crisis and widespread panic” just like its predecessor in order to get Congress to act expeditiously.

“I’ve been around long enough to know whenever someone tells me I have to make a decision right now, my response is no,” DeMint said. “That clears it up right away and I think more and more the Bush administration and now this administration knows that they’re not going to get a quick reaction out of Congress unless they create crisis and widespread panic. And that’s going to be their M.O. to get Congress to act.”

Another senator, James Inhofe, R-Okla., explained the Bush administration used a similar tactic, under the direction of former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, to get the $700-billion TARP bailout bill passed by Congress back on Oct. 4, 2008.

2. I'm sure this asshole had no problem...
...when President Bush was creating his own little crisis with the Iraq war---and insisting that we'd all
be sitting in mushroom clouds or toxic clouds of biological weapons--if we didn't go along with his Iraq
war fantasies?

Is that the kind of crisis creation and panic, he's talking about?

Do Republicans EVER stop projecting?

33. Really.
When they took power, everything they accused Democrats of doing, they did. And now, that they're out of power, everything they did, they're accusing Democrats of doing.

So he is as least as stupid as the Heritage Foundation, which means there is no limit, he is in fact infinitely stupid.

Or was your question rhetorical?

and purpose to gather opinions masquerading as "facts" by dubious idealogues with absolutely NO acedemic credentials or scholarship to back up their opinions, leaving a trail of absolute FAILURES and being absolutely WRONG about EVERYTHING they ever wrote an opinion on...

23. This OP made me think the same term: Disaster Socialism.
That President Obama is maybe writing the book with this title and it is subtitled: Tazer a wealthy capitalist until he pays his fair share of taxes, or until he pleads, "Don't taz me bro!"

In secret. Like a CIA manual.

Yeah he created a crisis but it was intended as a way of robbing the treasury before the foxes fled the coup.

After all, they now have no health insurance, no way to make their house payment, two little kids, and car payments (they live in the country). But we wouldn't want to create panic, now would we?

the Sunday morning talk shows saying he had to have an unconditional vote within a day or two. He did such a bad acting job, trying to convey dire consequences, I would have thought I was watching a silent movie.

30. CIA playbook is alive and well. They complain about what THEY did.
THEY, Republicans, created crises and then pushed to act quickly.

So, now they accuse US of doing what they did.

It stops US. It moves blame for what they did to US.

It's still the so-called LW media. LW media my left butt cheek.

From 2000 until January 2009 the Bush White House created the mess that requires the bailout. With DeMint's and Inhofe's help.

42. Jim DeMented, yet another embarassment from my home state.
To join a long list of embarassments: Lindsey Graham, Strom Thurmond...all the way back to the illustrious "Cotton Ed" Smith. Of whom one newspaper wrote: "If you removed the word 'nigger' from his vocabulary, he'd be speechless."

All of which helps explain why I moved to California about a hundred years ago. I've spent the last 3.5 years living in Egypt, which is sort of like South Carolina, only with mosques.

43. The situation is very serious
The people in the financial industry in NYC know just how threatening it is, and, big news, Rep. DeMint probably does as well, but is playing politics. President Obama is moving swiftly and has done more in a week to set this country on the right track then Bush did in eight years.

And, by the way, our banks need to be nationalized, at least temporarily, in order to keep our economy healthy and to ensure compliance and a return on investment for most Americans.
