WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine have been told by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign they will not be his vice presidential choice, NBC News reported on Friday quoting sources.

Speculation about Obama's choice has centered on Bayh, Kaine and Delaware Sen. Joseph Biden. Other names in the mix include Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and Texas Rep. Chet Edwards.

Obama and his campaign have offered little information but the Illinois senator said earlier this week he had made up his mind about the choice.

6. Isn't Bill Richardson the strongest of the bunch, barring Nunn or Clark?
I've assumed he'd be the pick from the beginning.

9. Whew!!
Bye, bye Bayh!

Kaine may have been good as VP. On the other hand, I can still make jokes about "the son of Cain" and not have people think it's about the VP.

10. Unless he's got a non NE liberal up his sleeve...
I think it's his first mistake.
Just have to wait and see.
Biden is a risky choice and doesn't bring a red state into play.

13. Bayh wouldn't have brought IN into the fold ...
... the Neanderthals here hate him just as much as they hate any Dem, and with his disastrous tenure as Governor to use as proof, it would push them even further into the McLame camp.

IN, for all intents and purposes, will NEVER go Dem in a Presidential election, unless Peyton Manning runs for President as a Democrat.

18. sure it will
Sure it will... Chicago is expanding that way. Never say 'never'.

20-30 years, i think we're going to see some serious blue landslides. The long-term trend is towards a blue USA. (think Europe) It may take a looong time, but it'll happen.

15. I'm with you on that. I think it would be a HUGE mistake to name a NE Liberal.
I sometimes wonder if the Party has a tin ear... or if they're afraid of success. The voters keep choosing folksy people like Clinton/Gore, Reagan, and Bush, and Jimmy Carter. Yet they keep throwing in these buttoned up guys from the North. American voters do not read the NYT, nor do they watch hearings on things... they like cowboys. Even if we all know how damn fake those cowboys are... Two guys in expensive suits would be a badddd move.

Richardson was just on Larry King and looked like he was going to/had been crying.

Either he's got some nasty allergies or he knows something that he's having a hard time keeping a lid on.

JMHO. Personally, I'd be thrilled if Richardson got the nod. :bounce:

16. Two down.....
While I don't think he'll get the nod, Bill Richardson would be a great choice. Expert on foreign affairs to help shut down that argument, will help with Hispanic vote, and brings New Mexico into play.
