Terre Haute Tribune-StarTERRE HAUTE — Mike Ellis resigned today as secretary of the Vigo County Democratic Party.
... Chris Gambill, a party precinct committeeman, has led an effort to remove Ellis as party secretary, which stems from an accusation that he openly supported Republicans in two recent local elections, a charge Ellis denies.
Ellis released today the following personal printed statement:
... "I continue to believe the action taken by the some members of our party was wrong. My decision not to resign was also wrong. Friends were pitted against friends and I don’t believe anyone benefited from this contest. Although I was not removed at the Vigo County
Democrat’s party caucus, I have tendered my resignation to Vigo County Democrat Central Committee Party Chairman Joe Etling.
... "Certainly the proceedings, brought by other members of the
Democrat Party, have caused our relationship to be uncomfortable given that we’re both on the Vigo County Central Committee, which is unfortunate.
... "I plan to work with the new Vigo County FDR Democrat Club to do my part in nominating and electing the best qualified candidates and I invite each of you to join me in this
independent democrat club, toward our endeavor."
