Judge: Disbarred D.A. Must Leave Now

Tuesday June 19, 2007 3:46 AM

By AARON BEARD

Associated Press Writer

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A judge said Monday he would order
Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong to leave his
duties immediately after he was disbarred for his misconduct
in the Duke University rape case.

The veteran prosecutor had announced earlier in the day he
would leave July 13. But that wasn't soon enough for Superior
Court Judge Orlando Hudson, who decided late Monday to
suspend Nifong from office.

As part of the suspension, Hudson said he would order the
sheriff on Tuesday to prevent Nifong from carrying out any
duties of the district attorney.

“I have thought about the situation, and this is way I wish to
proceed,” said Hudson who initially agreed to allow Nifong
work until next month July.

1. Those Poor Young Men
I hope they'll be o.k. With their resources, their future looks bleak indeed. They should really consider capital punishment for that nasty ol' Nifong.

P.S. Gawd, I know I'm gonna catch hell for this.

2. Don't let the door hit your rear end on the way out, Nifong.
That would be undignified.

4. Does he retain his pension?
I heard that by resigning rather than getting fired he can retain his state sponsored pension.

6. I would consider this judge's decision to be a termination, yes?
After all, he's foring Nifong out prior to the date he said his resignation would be effective.

Here's to hoping he doesn't get it. Sorry bout the wife and kids, but... he should have thought of them before he decided to ruin three completely innocent lives.

7. A suspension isn't a termination in any other line of work.
So I doubt this per se is a termination, in and of itself. I personally have no idea how anyone can terminate a DA's term.

3. Justice in this case is finally served
Nifong and Crystal will now hopefully slink back into obscurity.

5. Outstanding.
THIS is how you deal with corrupt public officials.

You hang them out to dry... before it's "convenient" for them.

8. Yeah, I do respect that part.
More should have been done along the lines of criminal prosecution for this man for that corruption but.. in the absence of that, a very powerful slap in the face is certainly helpful.

9. Good, but.....
I still think he should be prosecuted for his illegal actions in this case.

10. Wow!
How does Superior Court justice Orlando Hudson find time to make these rulings in the middle of baseball season? O-Dog's RAKING this year, too...
