AFPBAGHDAD - The curfew in Baghdad imposed after the bombing of Shiite shrine in the northern town of Samarra will be lifted on Saturday, an official in the prime minister's office said.
"The curfew will be lifted Saturday," he told AFP.
Iraqi authorities imposed an indefinite curfew from Wednesday at 3:00 pm (1100 GMT) to avert widespread violence after the bombing of the revered Shiite Al-Askari shrine in Samarra.
Most pedestrians and vehicles kept off the streets of Baghdad on Thursday as key bridges over the Tigris river connecting the eastern and the western regions of the city were deserted.
The capital is already under a daily curfew between 11:00 pm (1900 GMT) and 6:00 am (0200 GMT).
