Volcano erupts in southern Japan

TOKYO, Japan (AP) -- A volcano erupted in southern Japan on Wednesday, spewing a plume of smoke about 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) into the air, the Weather Agency said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Mount Sakurajima erupted at 5:30 p.m. (0830 GMT) and registered as moderate on the agency's scale for both the sound and the strength of the tremors it caused, according to a volcano bulletin.

4. I first seen it on Earth Change TV news and when I went on CNN

they also had it, so I took the link from CNN and posted this. I know what you mean, I was also looking for it in other sits too and didn't see it. Maybe because it just happened. Philippines also had Volcano eruption this evening too.

6. That particular volcano is always doing something or other

It's one of the ones that nearly always has a cloud of smoke over it. It's no Mount Saint Helen's, and I imagine that its eruption is just a secondary story on NHK news this morning.

7. No big deal, apparently

Sakurajima is always smokin', so an eruption is not surprising. According to Japanese news sources, the volcanic eruption did dump a little bit of ash on the nearby city of Kagoshima (island of Kyushu), but there was no major damage.
