Wild weather causes global havoc

Storm-weary Florida was braced for another pummelling from Hurricane Katrina after at least seven people died in the Miami area and 1.4 million were left without power.
Winds of 160 kmh were forecast to strengthen as Katrina swirled over the warm Mexico Gulf waters on a track that would take it to north-western Florida this week.
The lethal storm was just one aspect of nature's fury on the global stage as fires devastated Portugal and floods ravaged eastern Europe.

Bushfires in Portugal have killed 15 people, including 10 firefighters, destroyed more than 100 homes and nearly 500 farm buildings and forced the temporary evacuation of dozens of villages since January.
