Ashcroft Sees Progress in CIA Leak Probe

Attorney General Ashcroft Says Progress Being Made in Investigation of Leaked CIA Offier's Name

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON Oct. 16 — Progress is being made in determining who leaked the name of an undercover CIA official's name, Attorney General John Ashcroft said Thursday, as he sought to rebut criticism of his decision to retain control of the investigation.
In his most extensive remarks to date, Ashcroft repeated that he had not ruled out appointing a special counsel or recusing himself, as some Democrats have demanded and even some Justice officials not involved in the probe have begun to suggest.

Heard the same thing on NPR this afternoon, re: still "considering" appointing independent counsel, and thinks all is going fine. But, the report also stated that he thought it unnecessary to subpoena the other journalists. Something is missing from the above ABC report.

Ashcroft is obviously overcome by the very brilliance and christ-like omniscience he perceives himself to emanate.

2. Some flunkie is going to take the dive
and land a cushy job with a GOP friend in exchange for shutting this down and saving the ass of a higher up.

The only way this will be fully uncovered is if a journalist breaks rank.

4. The only problem I see with his statement
is Asscroft thinks progress is being made because he is getting further from the perpetrators! It is past time that he appoint an independent prosecutor.
