Anger at Nazi criminal's holiday

A row has erupted in Italy after a Nazi war criminal being held under house arrest in Rome was allowed to go on holiday to Lake Maggiore.

Erich Priebke, 92, is serving a life sentence for the murder of 335 people at the Ardeatine caves outside Rome.

He is staying at a villa which belongs to the son of a former Gestapo chief.

A magistrate in Rome approved his request to go on holiday, angering local people as well as wartime resistance and Jewish groups.

Invasion of jellyfish hits Spanish beaches
From Edward Owen in Madrid

BRITONS heading for the Spanish costas this summer are being advised to cool off in their hotel pools. For lurking just below the surface of the inviting, azure sea is an army of jellyfish.

The Spanish Red Cross has already treated more than 15,000 swimmers for nasty stings.

7. He was only a Captain, not a policy-maker. He was under orders
to execute the victims, and a postwar Italian court-martial acquitted him because of that. But for political reasons the Italian government put him through a second court-martial, which sentenced him to 15 years, reduced to 10 by the government.
