In fact I have often been called one. Most are kind, gentle people who are very helpful to others around them. It is wise not to attack one as they do seem to harbor the ability to fight. They often own guns and hunt deer and wild hog in my area of Florida. Some are very religious, some are not. Some drink, some don't. Overall they are good people.

My daughter is married to a real Florida cracker. He was born and raised in Florida and for a while in his youth he rode a horse and herded cattle in palmetto brush using a whip.

The guy in the story might consider himself a redneck but in reality he is simply a drunken fool. Fortunately all rednecks are not like him. Only a few are.
