In late 2006 and early 2007, Bartiromo became the focus of a scandal concerning rumors of her and Citigroup's Wealth-Management chief Todd Thomson had a personal relationship. Questions arose over whether Bartiromo and Thomson engaged in an inappropriate relationship, including multiple flights on a private Citigroup plane and a possible tryst in China.<20><21> The scandal came to a head when Todd Thomson was publicly axed by Citigroup's CEO Chuck Prince.<21> It was later revealed that many in Citigroup's upper ranks were dissatisfied with Thomson friendship with Bartiromo, the suspicion that he was leaking information to the CNBC anchor, and his use of company resources on her - including the plane flights and a $5 million sponsorship of a Sundance Channel series featuring Bartiromo.<21>
