Free the Weed
Legalize marijuana by allowing 3 plants each for adults.
No commercial growing.
Price will drop to weed levels anyway.
Related crime will disappear.

Tax revenue to be made off of industrial hemp farming and products.

1. Sure as hell works for me.
Legalize pot and tax it, maybe. Allow home growing, as you say. Decriminalize harder drugs like cocaine, heroin & speed, allowing them to be prescribed for addicts. That cuts the profit out of the drug enterprise. Any psychologist will tell you that suppression of behavior with punishment isn't very effective, but cutting out the reward for the behavior works like magic.

2. I still find it hard to believe ...
... that the US government spends so much money trying to eliminate a naturally-occurring plant, and the people that use it and/or sell it.

Instead of fearing the plant, let's find some good uses for it, which are numerous.

3. Absolutely
well said, although I would take it one step further and allow commercial growing, regulated, just like alcohol.

4. We are allowed to grow 30 plants in Sonoma County.
Medicinal of course }(

It's all good....unless the thugs from the DEA decide to pay a visit, which is rare.

5. 3 plants isn't enough
Unless you can grow 3 monsters outdoors and they're all female, or your not counting non-flowering veg plants and moms, rooted cuttings etc.

6. prohibition doesn't work
Prohibition is self-defeating. The more the government increases drug enforcement, the more it increases the profits and incentives of engaging in black market drug production. Prohibition can never work.

9. Marginally, but it could be better
With a reliable supply of quality clones to buy it might work out better but starting from seed a 3 plant rule is nearly unworkable, you'll too often find yourself either over the limit so risking prosecution or without worthwhile plants.

Roughly half of of the plants will end up being male, those are worthless but they are still plants. If your luck is bad maybe all of them will be, or none if it is good, but it is a crap shoot for the most part. It takes several weeks to grow to the stage where they might start showing preflowers and even then some varieties don't until the light period is decreased. In the end we've got two or three wasted months before we can even get started.

Ok, now we've got some females but all plants aren't created equal. Depending on the variety maybe one in 5, 10, or 20 will stand head and shoulders above the rest for quality and that's the one we want to grow out. The rest are somewhere between ok and trash, you might smoke it if that's what you have but it's not a keeper.

At just three plants and months a try it might take you quite a few tries to come up with the plant you want to grow, even then we still aren't done. What about clones? After all of that work to find the right one we still need to find a way to keep it for next crop, that means keeping at least one or two clones of it to take cuttings from for next time. With one clone and a three plant limit that just leaves two we're allowed to grow out, and it leaves you exposed to disaster if that one clone gets sick. Two clones is safer but leaves just one plant to grow.

Ok, now we've got that one plant, but we've still got a problem. Indicas are better for pain and such but they tend to also be the couch lock type so not ideal for during the day or when you have things to do, so maybe it would be a good idea to have a daytime variety as well. Now we get to do it all again for the daytime smoke and we're all out of legal room to grow anything.

Legal clones, limits on the number *in flower* rather than total, or any number of other solutions might do it but a simple 3 plant rule I'm afraid would still leave most of us at risk of arrest.

12. Free?
If it's free you couldn't tell people they could only grow three. There wouldn't be any hemp market, if you could only grow three. If it is free you could grow as much as you want. Tax the sale and get the government out of it. Why would you say it's free then have the government running around making sure people are only doing 3? That would cause much more harm than good. Free is FREE. No government restrictions on numbers. FREE isn't free if you say how many a person can do. Free isn't free, if you have the government monitoring how many plants you are growing. Free isn't free until the government gets out completely. A treatment like "medical tobacco" would be better. No regulation on personal growing, just sale. Tax monetary transfer. If you sell it you have to have a tax #, and pay tax on it. Non-monetary transfer no regulations. That would be free......lol

13. screw even messing around with taxing it...
Marijuana should be regarded as a natural occuring herb and therefore we should have the right to grow it ourselves.

14. We were so close.....
Why are people still so against this? Our society is not as naive as it was in the 60's or even the 80's. We're just throwing tax dollars away imprisoning people for something that is primarily safe (safer than legal drugs), not physically addictive, and embraced by a giant portion of the population. One day. Maybe not today, but soon.
