(58,785 posts)did he just not need to run such ruthless, dishonest campaigns in Vermont to get reelected to congress for nearly 30 years? Did the person or the situation change?
I believe his history actually revealed the answer long ago that many just didn't suspect of the very undistinguished I-Sanders face in group photos or the newly interesting one many first noticed in the first debate. He's always believed in the righteousness of and critical need for his lofty goals.
With the WH unexpectedly seeming attainable, my notion is that in 2015-2016 he added the belief in a critical need to place himself there, and with that a conviction that winning at all costs is justified. His history and writings reveal that his belief in himself has always been as strong as his contempt for those who don't share it.
As you say, running's a test of one's character, and so would be winning great power. I believe that any candidate who relies so extremely heavily on deceiving voters about what socialism and Democrats are and also on avoiding press scrutiny -- most seek as much as possible -- could have more previously unsuspected reveals with that power.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
