It's true that our party needs more diversity all around, not just presidential candidates. Even here on DU we see arguments in favor of throwing minorities under the bus on many important issues to help white people feel better about maintaining their white privilege. There used to be more of that for women back in the day before we started electing more women leaders to office everywhere.
The same needs to be done for minorities. Having 5 Indian-American congresspeople and 1 US Senator/presidential candidate resulted in fewer DUers insisting in the nonsensical concept of American-born H-1Bs. US citizens are Americans, not H-1B, not job stealers, regardless of race or country of their family's origin. The idea of an Indian-American with a US passport, US birth certificate, and obviously American accent still somehow being a foreigner invading this country to steal jobs sounded a little more racist when one of us was on televised presidential debates.
Personally, I enjoyed the threads insisting that she's somehow not African-American because she's Indian-Jamaican. We need some beer cheese and mustard to enjoy those logical pretzels.
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
