2016 Postmortem
In reply to the discussion: The Senate just repealed ACA and defunded Planned Parenthood; Bernie didn't vote. [View all]Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)vote was going to happen and the thing would pass no matter what. I also know the President will veto it. There are not enough votes to override that veto, but if I was all about showing up for show, that's when being there might actually count. I have zero need to see empty gestures and I have a great deal of respect for the few legislators who bother to understand the process. Symbols are for the faith based, process and procedure is what makes law.
This is just another of the dozens of votes to repeal they have made. When it returns from the WH, THAT will be a vote different from all these others. That's when I'd clear my day and show up.
I intensely dislike double standards. Bernie misses fewer votes as candidate than Obama, fewer than Hillary both times. You know which candidate/sitting Congress critter has the very best record of casting votes? Rand Paul.
