First post here at DU, but have been visiting this site daily for a few months now after hearing about it while listening to the Thom Hartman show. Now my background is a little different than the OP but I am a 26 year old male, who registered to vote at 18 and has been participating in the democratic process since then. I was raised by Democrats and have always voted for a democrat and I don't plan on changing that anytime soon, however, it wasn't until I heard about Bernie Sanders that I actually began to develop an interest in politics. At around this time last year, I was optimistic because I felt I didn't need to worry much since it was a foregone conclusion that we would go from Obama (Who I supported from the Primary to the General) to Hillary, and since I never really cared much so long as it was a Democrat in office I thought no big deal.
That changed about 8 months ago, when I was introduced to the Senator from Vermont. The more I heard him speak, the more I read about his positions on the issues that matter to me and millions of others like me, led me to realize that he is the candidate I want to support. Like Retro said, there are millions of people like us willing to spread the good word about Mr. Sanders, I take great pride in being able to say that I have converted 3 Hillary supporters to Bernie backers by simply giving them information and links about his stance on the issues. That being said, I will vote for a Democrat in the General no matter what, the difference is that one candidate actually cares about people like me and the struggles we face and the other represents a vote simply to keep a republican out of office. I would like to vote for someone who has consistently been on the right side of history, not one who evolves their position when it is deemed convenient. "One of the hardest decisions you will ever face in life is choosing whether to walk away or try harder." Bernie fans I say we try harder because this is our chance to let our voices be heard in this era of corporate oligarchy and i'm sick of the bullshit.
