But Holy Communion is given from hosts consecrated on Thursday.

At the end of Mass on Maundy Thursday there's a procession of the Blessed Sacrament to a garden of repose, where watch can be kept (the church I was at stayed until midnight). Then as part of the liturgy of Good Friday, after the veneration of the Cross the Sacrament is brought back to the altar and Holy Communion given.
