Reason and accountability are non existent. I imagine there may be instances in which protection of the apparatus becomes paramount in America (such as if they are aware that their interference caused the suicide of a young woman), but there are a few major differences. The primary one in my opinion is that America has to deal with legitimate enemies. They have no time to run around and create b.s threats because there are far too many legitimate dangers lurking and need to be addressed.

Whether it is fighting a Cold War, the spread of Communism or as is the case now, terrorist threats, America has had to answer the bell to real concerns. There may be varying opinions of whether this is right or wrong, if they go overboard etc. but at least you can feel comfort in knowing that you; an American citizen, will not be the target of petty vengeful actions by the establishment for twenty years. The CIA and FBI simply cannot waste time money and resources chasing rabbits or pursuing personal grudges against teenagers because it would legitimately place the country at risk. This is patriotism and commitment to their constituents; pride in doing what is right in a country that is far older and independent than Canada. Certainly you will have a few bad apples, but in a smaller population in Canada with essentially NO oversight or accountability, such bad apples are the dominant breed. Their primary objective is to keep themselves busy, especially considering that the number of real threats in Canada is minute compared to the U.S.

What is astonishing to me, in my personal interactions, is that this drive; this perverted need to destroy another citizen for their own gain really has no boundaries. Is it ok for a federal Canadian agency to use counterfeit money of another sovereign ally as a method to entrap their own citizens? Is it acceptable for a Canadian agent to encourage ideology and spread rumours of their largest trading partner implicating them as responsible for the death of thousands of their own citizens after 9/11? I can tell you, I was extremely angry hearing what this undercover was telling me (before I was even aware he worked for CSIS), if I heard that American agents were doing the same after a Canadian tragedy I would be just as angry.

Here is something to consider. Let's assume that Canadian agents are spreading false rumours about how evil America and the CIA are. Some nutjob who is already looking for a reason to hate something or someone takes the bait, hook line and sinker. Who is to say that this person does not attempt to cause harm to Americans based on the hatred that was bred by Canadian agents? I don't know enough about the U.S establishment to rule it our completely, but I would be shocked if American CIA or FBI agents were carelessly causing the same harm to Canada. Ultimately, if someone in the U.S had been persecuted as I have there would be multiple sources of independent organizations to turn to for assistance; in Canada there are none.
