AR-15 is a brand as is Smith and Wesson. It has been improperly reported all over the media (once it gets repeated, it gets repeated over and over) that an AR-15 was used in Aurora. It was not an AR-15, it was the Smith and Wesson M & P 15, an entirely different gun.
A similar thing happens with other semi-auto weapons. The cops and media frequently call a weapon an "AK-47" when in fact it was an SKS or another semi-auto weapon.
