(13,420 posts)I'm not sure why this concept is so foreign to you. Simply saying it is impossible does not make it so. I'm merely saying it could happen because that's what humans do - they improve things and make the impossible, possible. You seem to think the impossible never happens because evidently mankind simply gives up when it reaches a wall. When does that ever happen? Mankind always finds a way to scale that wall and move forward to the next one. It may not happen for another 50 or 100 years; but there will come a time when a massive destructive, killing agent will be handheld. You seem to be arguing that the magnitude of the death toll is integral to the laws we have or should have on the books. I merely think we need to focus on the far more important aspect - not the magnitude part but the death part. Maybe it's OK for you if a weapon can kill 10 people at a time but it's not OK if it can kill 10,000. For me, anything above 0 is problematic - and yes, I am aware that countless objects in this world have a potential death rate above 0, even if they are not as accessible or as fast and efficient as a handheld weapon.
