and would add that over-praising a child for taking nasty-tasting medicine can have its dangers. When my mother was about 3 she was given quinine, which apparently tastes horrible (I've never taken it) and her mother kept telling her what a 'good girl' she was for taking it. Then one day she did something naughty and wanted to make herself into a good girl, so she swallowed about 30 quinine tablets, and was rushed to hospital having convulsions. Obviously she recovered, or I wouldn't be here, but she was always careful to keep medicines out of my reach when I was little!
