His entire campaign has been a certificate of participation.

This primary has been a sociological study's treasure trove. I wonder if some sociologist will write a piece on this primary vis a vis "certificates of participation"?

Not to be ageist or anything; but, what generation grew up with "certificates of participation" and what generation is Bernie all in?

As I have written before, I came of age in an era where every spring, we had to try out for little league baseball. If, at the end of try outs, we got "drafted", we made the team ... if not, we spent the summer working on our game, so that next year, we'd get "drafted".

And, even if we made the team, if we were good enough, we would get to play in the games ... if not, we spent the summer working on our game (on the team), so that next year, we'd get to play.

And, at the end of the season, there were 4 trophies awarded, a Championship trophy (for everyone on the Championship team), a MVP trophy (one for each non-championship team), a Most improved Player trophy (one for each non-championship team), and a Sportsmanship trophy (one for each non-championship team). There were no Participation trophies ... and, to be honest, NO ONE wanted to get the Most Improved or Sportsmanship trophies, because that meant you weren't a champion.

There was no whining ... just hard work over the summer for next year ... or not!
