...a huge water main break flooded out one of the cable car lines.

Crews are scraping mud out of cable-car tracks after a 12-inch water main burst on Russian Hill and sent water cascading down a steep hill.

The 78-year-old, cast-iron main burst at Mason and Filbert streets at 3 a.m. Wednesday, and thousands of gallons of water streamed down Mason Street and into the trenches that house the cables for the Powell-Mason cable car line, according to Muni.

Of course, this is potentially much more serious (*cough*San Bruno*cough*). At least it's "only" a 2-inch line.
