2. You can't go wrong with Powell-Pressburger.

Some of their films are simply masterpieces. One of the best (and my fave) is The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943).

As an anti-war film in 1943 it was daring for it's time. And as far as epic film making goes it is superb.
