Instead of family members sending out bunches of email they can post on Facebook including photos.

You can set up little "groups" and control who sees what that you post...in other words, if you have some younger family members on Facebook but want to share some more mature jokes or something, you can keep that sort of thing from little eyes.

I've found family members I haven't seen in decades, and some I never knew I had, like cousins.

My grandkids. Mom. Nieces. Aunts and uncles.

Reconnected with High School classmates 40+ years later and found out that some of the "cool" girls who barely talked to me back then are really nice people later in life.

Set your page up so that only friends can see it (not the public), and just don't include any information you're uncomfortable sharing, like phone number, current location, whatever.

It's really a blast and I love it.
