In reply to the discussion: What PBS "Masterpiece Theater" series did you really enjoy? [View all]spooky3
(34,636 posts)41. I echo that. I've read only the first 6, but they were great. I also like the more recent Poldark
on Masterpiece. Beautifully filmed, well-acted. Good costumes, sets, and music. I like the dialogue, especially Caroline's lines. Loved Hugh Armitage's portrayal.
The only thing I don't like about Poldark is: the character of Ross Poldark! He's too over-the-top heroic, too often. In the books, there were so many other events happening that are not depicted on TV, so many good characters and details, that this flaw is much less noticeable.
Did you other Poldark fans know that Winston Graham also wrote "Marnie" (made into the Hitchcock film)?

The original (1977/78) Poldark with Robin Ellis as Ross is my all-time fave.

I read the books then, too! Winston Graham then wrote a bunch more so I haven't read them all.

As a young woman, I thought Robin Ellis very dashing in the part. I liked that Poldark was not

First three I loved, but, and it's my fault, could not stand Damian Lewis ever after.
