(5,523 posts)I grew up in NE PA and only heard of grits. In 69 I had my first grits in boot camp in Mississippi. Ugh. Library paste. At a diner in New Orleans I ordered breakfast and NO grits. The waitress plopped a huge load of em on my plate and said "You gotta have yur grits". Well over the years if I was in the South and was served grits, I drowned them in butter and salt and politely ate one spoonful. One time in Atlanta I took that spoonfull of grits and it was heaven. I thought, that's what I was missing. They were sooooo delicious I asked for seconds. Guess what. The the seconds were ..... library paste. I never found out why that one batch was so good. I wish they would tape Mittens eating a whole plate of them. You know he wouldn't be able to hide the act of forcing them down.
