In reply to the discussion: Billionaires Received U.S. Farm Subsidies, Report Finds. [View all]Divernan
(15,480 posts)10. Individuals who NEVER farmed, receiving $20,000 annually in farm subsidies for decades
I was trying to track down an old high school classmate and one google link was to a list of those receiving farm subsidies. There she was, along with her older sister and younger brother (now all in their 70's). I know their parents -back as early as the 1940's- lived in a big house in our small town - and the father wore a suit to work every day. The three kids all went to college and never worked a day of their lives on a farm. So here the 3 "kids" are, some 60 years later, collecting $60,000 a year in farm subsidies - apparently leasing out their farmland to some agribusiness.
And of course the parents and kids are lifelong Republicans. Damn welfare queens!

Your argument is insultingly simplistic & flat wrong. The European Union is getting it right.

How about a little 'means testing' for farm subsidies instead of Social Security?
