The Republicans mishandled this bill, the other Senate bills and companion House bills so badly that they aren't going to gain any support in the future. While I would like for the transportation bill to have passed, I doubt if it is so vital that it would merit another special session so that they can consider these crazy abortion bills again. The death penalty bills for 17-year-olds isn't a significant enough issue to warrant a special session.
So the GOP got about 25% of what they wanted in this special session--which is about as much as you can ever expect from a Republican.
Did they take the John Boehner course in effective legislative leadership?
