(2,795 posts)I keep wondering this. Some of these kids with autism are pretty disabled. I see them at my boys' school and there is a spectrum and some of the kids are in class without any special education or aides. Or some have an IEP where they stay in the class but have different expectations for classwork and testing/grading. And some spend most of their time in the special education room with an aide.
Our govt keeps cutting and cutting programs. They will have a generation of hundreds of thousands of autistic kids who will grow into adults who very possibly will not be able to hold a job to support themselves. Autism is an equal opportunity disability and many of the parents of these kids will not have the financial means to set up some kind of financial account to help take care of their adult autistic child. And when the parents die, what happens with all of these people? They can't be thrown out into the streets. The republicans think everyone should be able to pull themselves up by their boot straps and support themselves. But there are going to be A LOT of autistic adults who genuinely won't be able to do that.
