In reply to the discussion: Kerry Is Pick for Secretary of State, Official Says [View all]razorman
(1,644 posts)20. I have wondered the same thing.
Why does President Obama keep raiding the senate for his cabinet picks? Sure, I understand that he was a senator, and that these people are familiar to him, but doesn't he consider the possible consequences of freeing up a senate seat held by a Dem? Granted, the odds of a Republican taking Kerry's seat in Mass. are slim, but the same thing was said when Senator Kennedy passed away. Why take the risk?

I'm surprised so many Dems are still so unaware of all the heavy lifting Kerry did for State Dept

I believe that too. If not for Hillary, Kerry would have been appointed in 2008.
