The sad thing is, this will play out as “tough” and “country” to a lot of people, who are inclined that way in the first place.

On the other hand, the love of dogs is one of the things that disparete Americans can have in common. Overall, it’s not going to play well I think. As you say, the fact that she used this story for political gain is very, very sick.
