It hurts the consumer most of all. The consumer pays for it through inflation, the corps are simply a conduit that money flows through

The numerical amount of debt is not relevant. What is relevant is debt/yearly gdp

Yep. And it's lower than the debt/gdp of a number of other countries, as well.
