That seems out of character, however. Both could have been done. The point is that the need caused by Sandy provided anyone so inclined an opportunity to contribute. Hell, it would have been better for Romney to keep his campaign schedule and open and close his rallies with encouraging on-line red cross contributions.
The flip side of Romney's ruthlessness is his fragility. Ann Romney gave us a hint. Perhaps he has no true compassion for anyone other than his own family because they are the only ones he trusts. He should be content to concentrate on being rich Grandpa Mitt, where he can do the most good and do no harm.
