ABINGTON, Va. Mitt Romney's campaign is shooting down a simmering online theory the Republican nominee used a "cheat sheet" in Wednesday night's debate against President Barack Obama.
The theory extensively documented by the liberal blog Daily Kos and picked up on the Daily Beast and elsewhere focuses on a brief moment as Romney took the stage, pulled something out of his pocket, and put it on the podium.
But according to a Romney aide the object was simply a handkerchief, not an illicit list of zingers.
"It's a handkerchief" the aide said simply in response to the post.

it does seem like, in this case, we might be dealing with a handkerchief?? unless more evidence pops up otherwise... like he had notes in the handkerchief (I would not put it past Romney at all, he has been caught cheating in the past, see below), they've got a pretty good explanation....
However!!!!!! Romney did cheat in 2008... and it is on tape... in this 2008 case, I am convinced that something was up:

Keith Thomson: How to Cheat in a Presidential Debate
During MSNBC's January 24, 2008 Republican presidential debate in Boca Raton, Florida, moderator Tim Russert asked Mitt Romney, "Will you do for Social Security what Ronald Reagan did in 1983"
A disembodied whisper of "He raised taxes" followed.
Romney appeared to take note before answering Russert, "I'm not going to raise taxes"

The fact they thought it was a big enough issue to address is more curious than anything else

Absolutely...my thoughts exactly. You don't hand a hanky to your son...even Mitt.

I think at some point (after he wiped his lip), he put his hanky in his breast pocket.

Looks kind of soft to me when he places it on the podium. I think it's a handkerchief. nt

That is the best place for a handkerchief, so you don't have to break your train of thought
