In reply to the discussion: Mexico says it will take legal action against US over El Paso shooting [View all]PatrickforO
(14,634 posts)Any time the US makes some statement or takes this kind of action in South or Central America or the Mid-East, or parts of Asia, we could as easily make the same kinds of points. For instance, we toppled the Allende government in Chile and replaced him with Pinochet. We were responsible for the dirty war in Argentina. We traded with Iran to get weapons for the Contras in Nicaragua. Our shock and awe campaign in 2002 killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians.
And, as the other poster pushing back on you says, a big part of this is our ill-conceived war on drugs, which has basically made parts of Mexico subject to a sort of rule of terror from vicious drug cartels.
Actually, I'm happy to see Mexico taking this step. You know why? It might wake some people up. Because this is the kind of step the US used to take, but now, under the demonic and lawless evil that is Trump, we don't really have much of anything in terms of moral authority.
