The reality is that discussions here are the tail, not the dog.

Anything that we decide to not talk about here, has no bearing on what the other 99.999% of the voters talk about.

But sometimes we think the tail wags the dog, and that if we don't talk about it, it somehow influences things that happen outside these virtual walls.
