The idiots trying to exonerate Trump are acting like the "hope" expression was said in a vacuum, that it's just hope (!), and that the context wasn't significant at all. Context is everything with language of course, as every language philosopher has ever told us. The president ordering everyone out of the room to say "I hope" to Comey isn't some innocent expression of "hope." It's so stupid and so dishonest for them to pretend otherwise.

Why don't these geniuses think how they'd feel if a teacher said "I hope I can see more of you outside of class" to a young student asking about a low grade? Or a boss saying to an employee "I hope we can go out on a date someday?" Or a police chief saying to the new guy (as in Serpico) that the corrupt guy being investigated is a "good guy...maybe you can see a way to let this go?"

Oh I forgot, Trump is just too dumb to know the rules/laws. Wonder if that works for your average person in court? It doesn't, does it...
