11. Springsteen: local music and Desert Island Discs
Mon Feb 20, 2017, 04:56 AM
Feb 2017

Bruce is a genuine class act. Another thing he does quite often in Oz (and presumably elsewhere) is to include a song written by a local artist, one that would be recognised by the local audience but probably not by a wider audience. He's willing to do a little work to get his fans onside (not that they wouldn't be, anyway).

Desert Island Discs is a BBC radio program. It's been running since 1942. In the program, a famous person (artist/scientist/politician/sportsperson/etc) comes on and presents 8 pieces of music that he or she would wish to have if they were to be stranded on a desert island. In December, Bruce appeared (is that the right word?) and went through his favourite pieces. In between the music, the guest speaks about other aspects of his/her life. Bruce touched on some fairly personal subjects. Anyway, the podcast is available and downloadable here...

The music selected is kept fairly short in the podcast due to legal restrictions.
