(29,237 posts)since that's another thing twisted by the RW. Saw a post here on that today -- you know, about caring for the poor and not hating gays, etc ... I'm not Christian but so many vote according to what their churches direct that it's another important area of influence for the less informed.
Ive always thought the whole concept of "strict constructionism" that Scalia et al have claimed to follow has implicit overtones of biblical righteousness, and that they primarily use it for political leverage/gain. Stunned me to learn that he believed literally in the existence of the Devil since it seemed from our perspective that he'd be one who'd definitely be going to hell. Maybe he believed that the more vitriolic he was against the Left, the better his chances of going to heaven. But conflicts of interest and other ethical breaches (including twisting the law in Bush v Gore) don't qualify a person for hell?
