(530 posts)...since I haven't seen the word in the thread. I can tell you - since I have watched Rachel since election night (against my better judgement) - that they are reporting now on the things that they should have been reporting on then. Instead, they focused with idol obsession on empty podiums waiting for the d-word (I can't bring myself to say his name) to show up and with rabid obsession about irrelevant emails. They are completely ignoring the fact that they share a large part of the responsibility for the outcome of this election. And - guess what: just like the d-word, they don't care because their parent companies stand to make HUGE profits from the incoming administration. That is what it is all about. This will be the largest transfer of wealth to the smallest amount of people in the history of the world.
We all sat idly by while they stole the election in 2000. We then protested against the run-up to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq but few in the government listened. They had more information than we in the public sphere so they knew damn well there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq yet they went in anyway. Regardless of what we, the people, wanted, they new better. Mitch McConnell and the Republicans decided that they knew best what was good for the country by not letting us decide if it was important that Russia working WITH HIS CAMPAIGN to elect the D-word. The media decided the emails were the ONLY thing in the election that mattered. Nothing else attracted viewership like the emails. Now, we have an electoral college that, in spite of the "revelations" (if you were paying attention you knew this was happening BEFORE the election) and perhaps with an upcoming briefing by the CIA, will legally install the d-word into office and proceed with pillaging the world using our tax dollars to pay for it. Our "democracy" (it is really a republic) was designed to make us believe we have power in government yet we have none. Of course, there are a few exceptions to the rule but, generally speaking, the government is and has always been run by those who have been trained by (think ivy league) the establishment.
The word "boycott" came from the Irish Land League who, in 1880, ostracized Captain Charles Boycott - an "absent landlord" who was given land that had been taken from small farmers and then collected rent from those farmers who could barely eek out a living after paying rent. Read anglo history and you will see a strong pattern that suggests we are and have always been pawns of the uber rich. All of us. The atrocities committed against the Native Americans when Great Britain came to America were a direct result of policies imposed on the Irish for centuries before that. "Plantations" were places where the British sent people to live and steal the land. If the "natives" did not assimilate, they were exterminated. We, as a country, have been promoting those policies all over the globe since the beginning of the United States of America. Manifest Destiny. We are entitled. All of us bear responsibility for where we are today. We choose to ignore what is being done to natives around the globe to satisfy our entitled behavior. We all drive cars (many new, at that), heat our over-sized homes, have closets full of clothes and shoes that we never wear, have electronic gadgets from TVs to iPhones, eat food that was produced inhumanely because agricultural animals are "exempt" from humane treatment, and live in the lap of luxury when compared to the people and other animals around the world who literally give up their lives so that we can have all of this. We are more interested in what we can get than how it is obtained. Every time we buy something new or fill up our gas tanks we are implicitly supporting the policies we express disdain for. The only way to have a real impact on any of the things we object to is to STOP being part of it. Hence, the boycott. My suggestion would be that we start boycotting much more than just the MSM. We should be boycotting all kinds of things from food to clothing to cars to gasoline to ... I could go on almost infinitely. It might be inconvenient but let us stop being so selfish. We should also stop paying taxes. We have "taxation without representation". IMO, it is time we began putting our money where our mouths are and actually taking steps that will have an impact. Step up, people. The planet is dependent upon it.
I know I've spoken in a lot of generalizations here but I felt it was necessary to make a point.
