that Unger supposes that, Obama having "failed to advance the progressive cause", as he has it, the only alternative is to let the Republicans fuck things up badly enough that an actual leftist gets elected. This would be consistent with Unger's political thought being influenced by Marx and Hegel, and the Leninist "heightening of the contradictions" between labour and capital needed as part of the dialectic process that brings about revolution.
